Vitamin E only has one very important function in the human body. It serves as an anti-oxidant! Oxygen is like fire, it is a great servant and a terrible master. Without control it can damage the tissues, much in the same way it can oxidize paint, aluminum, copper and iron. The job of Vitamin E is to prevent that same kind of damage inside our body.
More & more evidence indicates that the number one cause of health problems associated with aging (such as erosclerosis, cancer and Alzheimer’s) is the accumulation of oxidative damage in our tissues. Researchers have shown that a high blood level of vitamin E due to daily supplements, has more influence on protecting against heart attacks than high cholesterol does in causing them. The same is true for protecting against many types of cancer and Alzheimer's.
To protect the natural vitamin E until it gets into our blood and tissues, we combine the vitamin E with a natural molecule known as acetate (derived from acetic acid as found in vinegar). During digestion the acetate molecule is removed and the natural vitamin E is absorbed into the blood stream where we need it.
In nature, vitamin E is found in two basic forms, d-tocopherol and d-tocotrienol. It has long been known that only the d-tocopherol form has significant biological activity in man. This form is found in nature in four slightly different types. Each of which is identified by one of the first four letters of the Greek alphabet, alpha, beta, gamma and delta.
Recent research has now shown that the only form of vitamin E to have 100% biological activity in the human body is thed-alpha-tocopherol form. This is the only form now found in our Super E.
Synthetic vitamin E is quite inferior to the natural form and here is why! When they make synthetic vitamin E they have to make it in two different shapes at the same time. One shape turns to the right (dextro is Latin for the word right and is designated by the small letter “d” out in front). This “d” form is the natural form and has 100% activity. The other half of the synthetic form of vitamin E turns to the left (levulo is the Latin word for left), and is designated by the small letter “l” out in front.
Since the “l” form is not found in nature, the body has to convert it to the “d” form before it can use it. Thus only a small percentage of the “l” form can be used because the body has a very limited ability to convert it to the usable “d” form.
If you want 100% activity from the vitamin E you buy, always make sure the label says it is “d”-alpha-tocopherol and not “dl”-alpha-topocherol. There is only one little letter difference, but what a difference it makes to your body!
Our Vitamin E is 100% natural d-alpha-tocopherol.
